I went through a bunch of my old songs recorded in the years 2009 - 2012 and picked the best 18. Then, I thought to myself, "Some of these aren't very good," so I whittled it down to 10 and called it a day. There's an opener and closer to this so those aren't really "songs" but they do add two more to the tracklist so there's that.

I recorded most of these on a Tascam DP02, my first digital recording device ever. It had 8 tracks and built in reverb and delay, which was a step up from the 4-track I was used to. Songs like "Cameron" and "Rewards Out" were done at my grandparent's house during the winter 0f '09, right before I moved to NYC. Other songs like "Feeding Hills" and "Check's In The Mail" were done in different apartments in Brooklyn, and up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan (hence the name of the instrumental "Heights." I liked to set up a mic in the bathroom and record just my four string and vocals. The place in Washington Heights had a big empty room with tile floors and concrete walls and the reverb I got in there sounded great. You can hear it in the chorus of "Rewards Out." Even better, it had paintings of a cartoon jungle with monkeys swinging on vines and lions and tigers prancing and dancing. I would tell people I did the artwork specifically to get my creative energy running and look at their face.

I kept these songs around because I liked them and always planned on recording them again but one day it occurred to me that they wouldn't get any better with a rerecording. So that's that. They're your problem now. Thank you for taking them outta my hands.
